BACK IN THE 1980s, Glamox supplied lighting to the Oseberg Field Centre. The three Platforms, Oseberg A, B and D, were equipped with GX 240 luminaires. Three decades later, Equinor decided to upgrade the lighting and achieve the significant energy savings associated with LED technology. Given the good condition of the robust GX 240, Equinor decided that it was sufficient to replace the light source and electronic components with an LED kit.
Glamox has designed a custom LED KIT to meet today’s expectations of energy efficiency, ease of installation and has also had the solution ATEX-certified.
Sales Manager Carsten Bonderup in Glamox explains that the kit has been developed in close collaboration with Equinor. “The Equinor team are very happy with the result. Even if you work at a moderate speed, replacing the component tray takes one hour maximum. Replacing the complete fixture would take three to four times as long. The refurbishment projectwill reduce the energy consumption from each light fitting by up to 45 percent with an added light output of more than 33%,” he said.
Oseberg Field Centre
Oseberg is a field in the northern part of the North Sea. The water depth is 100 metres.
Oseberg was discovered in 1979, and the plan for development and operation (PDO) was approved in 1984. The field was developed in multiple phases and production started in 1988.
The Oseberg Field Centre includes three platforms Oseberg A, B and D. They are connected by several bridges. Oseberg A is a concrete base platform with process equipment and living quarters while Oseberg B sits atop a steel jacket and has drilling, production and injection equipment. Oseberg D is a steel platform with processing and export equipment.

Maintenance reduction
By modernising existing lighting installations with LED lighting, Equinor will have a reduction in maintenance of about 75 % or around 1000 offshore hours per year. In total this reduces the operational costs associated with lighting by about 70 % annually.
