Ex lighting for hazardous environments

We offer a wide range of Ex products for hazardous areas including technical lights, floodlights and interior lighting.

Although these products are developed for hazardous areas, many of them have also been tested for MIL standards for EMC, shock and vibration and also come with options for NVG and Night adaptation colours.

Relevant products for this application:
• Floodlights for hazardous areas - (FX61N)
• Technical lights for hazardous areas - (TX60N MIL, MIX LED, MAX LED)

Long life and safe
For products to be installed in hazardous environments, we generally recommend fittings with high lumen output, high CCT of 5,000 and a colour rendering index of at least 80. Special attention should be given to the environment in which the fittings are installed.

We also offer Ex fittings in several materials, although fittings with a housing made from powder coated deep drawn 316L stainless steel with an IP rating of 66/67 and with an exchangeable LED gear tray, is always a safe choice. However, we can also offer sealed-for-life Ex fittings in seawater-resistant aluminium, which in addition to having the right Ex certification, also come with a complete set of MIL test documentation on EMC, shock and vibration.

Products designed and developed for installation and use in hazardous areas must be certified in accordance with project and regional requirements. Standards and certifications are not the same for all regions and to learn more about which products can be used in which regions, we have included a summary below.

ATEX approvals are mandatory for countries within the EU and can be accepted in other countries outside the EU.
IECEx is approved in other countries around the world or is the basis for specific country approvals based upon the IEC 60079 standards. Area classification per ATEX & IECEx is per IEC 60079-10-1 (gases/vapours) and 60079-10-2 (dusts).
Technically, the products have the same safety characteristics as they are built to the same standard (ATEX – EN, IECEx - IEC).
However, Zone 2 equipment under ATEX approvals can be self-declared by the manufacturer, but this is not allowed under IECEx.
You will also find other standards and regulations such as Energy Institute – IP 15, API RP 500 & 505 and NFPA 497.

UL & CSA – Underwriters Laboratories and CSA group are both recognised standardisation and certification organisations that test to the same standards and codes, Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and National Electrical Code (NEC).

For North America, the classification system used is based upon the NEC 500 and 505. The system consists of Classes, Divisions, Groups and/or Zones and is designed to ensure that equipment meets minimum standards, and to easily match equipment and operational procedures. Depending on certification, both CSA and UL listed products can be used locally and internationally.

INMETRO –
Brazilian certification in accordance with INMETRO requirements. Equipment intended for use in Explosive Atmospheres requires mandatory third-party certification to confirm compliance with the relevant INMETRO administrative rule No. 179. Commonly referred to as ‘INMETRO certification’.
