The Brief
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) needed a lighting controls fit-out that could meet the demands of its year-round research station, Halley VI, in the Antarctic setting. Working in consultation with AECOM, we were asked to provide a low cost system that facilitated ease of wiring and programming of each of the eight interlinked pods that make up the body of the station.
The Innovation
We recommended the use of its Lon2dali system using the LonWorks™ to DALI Gateway, enabling all Halley VI pods to be connected together to provide site-wide control of each unit. To allow the BAS engineering team to be self-sufficient, we also created a site-specific training course at their Basingstoke HQ for DALI and LonWorks™ programming using LonMaker™.
The Result
Thanks to our lighting controls solution, the British Antarctic Survey engineers have been able to successfully commission the system direct from the station in Antarctica, ensuring ease of operation for the state-of-the-art global research platform.
